With my aggresive driving style, I have concluded that if the price for electricity is above 27cents, it is not worthwhile to charge, instead use gas. This metric is especially useful when attempting to charge during the day. Or looking it the otherway around, best to not charge at some times in the day and instead leave it for the night.
Note that “your mileage may vary” but none the less the formula/method below applies.
gas price | 2.73 | $/gallon |
Miles per kwh in Pure EV mode | 3.5
Daily Commute | 27 | miles |
kwh required for daily commute | 7.714286
Pure Gas mode mpg | 35 | |
Gas Amount required for commute | 0.771429 | gallons |
gas cost for commute | 2.106 | $ |
price per kwh to equal gas | 0.273 | $/kwh |
